Kindergarteners study three units in science: Trees and Weather, Materials and Motion, and Animals Two by Two. Through hands-on experiments, students observe objects and events, think about how they relate to what is known, test their ideas in logical ways, and generate explanations that integrate the new information into understanding of the natural and designed worlds.
Our first unit in Kindergarten is Trees and Weather. We will explore diversity among the trees that grow at McGinn. We will also monitor the changes in weather and how it affects living things.
In our second unit, Materials and Motion, students will investigate properties of fabrics and woods, to determine what makes them ideal for use in certain situations They will also take on roles of engineers to design and build a model roller coaster!
Our last unit of the year, Animals Two by Two, provides close and personal interaction with a few common land and water animals. Focusing on their needs, students will learn how to care for our new class pets.
